For the past 25 years since its founding in 1998, the Society has served as a place for academic activities and exchanges among the most prestigious bioinformatics experts in Korea. Having grown to a size of more than 600 attendees at the 2022 Annual Meeting, we believe that our role is becoming more important than ever with the recent remarkable advances in artificial intelligence and changes in the domestic bio-industry research and development trend toward technological innovation based on 'digital bio'.
The new steering committee, including myself, will continue to provide a venue for various academic activities as a cornerstone of the academic and industrial fields of data-driven bio research in Korea. The BIML (Bioinformatics and Machine Learning) Workshop, which is held every February, will become the most prestigious bioinformatics education program in Korea by combining online and offline courses during the coronavirus pandemic. The Yeongjong Conference, an academic event in April that started last year, will become a differentiated exchange venue for experts in the field of bioinformatics, providing a valuable time to discuss and make suggestions for the development of the society and share the latest research trends and future visions. Finally, we will do our best to build a data-driven bio-research infrastructure and bioinformatics community by exchanging the latest research results, expanding the international academic network, and providing a branch for discovering the next generation of talents through the regular conference in November.
The 13th Steering Committee, which will run the conference for the next two years, hopes to achieve genuine communication with various members within the conference, and we will practice it. We look forward to your active participation.
We wish you good health and peace at home.
